Is Your Chair Killing You?

~ Guest Article by Kent Burden
Is Your Chair Killing You?
Did you know that sitting for extended periods of time is as bad for your health as smoking cigarettes? And exercising for 30-60 minutes a day isn't enough to undo the damage from extended periods of sitting.

Is Your Chair Killing You reveals shocking new research showing that sitting for long periods greatly increases your risk of developing obesity, heart disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer. Our bodies were designed to move constantly over the course of the day, but most of us sit for hours a day at work and at home!

Celebrity trainer, fitness/wellness expert and award-winning author Kent Burden has created brief, simple movements you can incorporate into your daily life to combat the damaging effects of sitting. These simple movements, done standing for 1-5 minutes each hour will burn calories, energize and refresh you, and you won't even break a sweat; you'll even improve your back pain. This book is a how-to for weight loss and disease prevention. Read this book--you'll be healthier in as little as 8 minutes a day.
Kent Burden finally addresses something fitness professionals have been trying to teach their clients for years.  His book is clear and to the point and his exercises are simple to understand and apply.  This man knows what he's talking about and we will definitely recommend this book to our clients!

You would have to be living under a rock or in a cave not to know that living a sedentary lifestyle was bad for your health. But what exactly is a “sedentary lifestyle”? If you’re like me, I figured after a tough 10 hour day behind my desk I could just hop into the gym, throw around a few weights, jump into the last half of my favorite Zumba class and I’d be golden. But back in 2010 I found out that I was wrong…dead wrong.

While perusing my favorite men’s magazine I happened upon an article that reported new research that seemed to indicate that sitting for long periods of time (basically more than 3 hours at a time) was as hazardous to your health as smoking cigarettes. Even worse, doing the government recommended amount of exercise wasn’t enough to combat the damage caused by all that sitting. I almost fell out of my chair!

For the past two years I have been combing through the research on what has become known as “sitting disease” which has resulted in my book Is Your Chair Killing You?  Loaded with pictures, descriptions and easy to follow advice this book will help you be more active and more productive all day long.
